Correspondence and personal letterbooks (1861-1911) containing descriptions of action during Olin's service (1862-65) with the 36th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry at Fredericksburg, Va., the capture of Vicksburg (1863), the Battle of the Wilderness (1864), and the Siege of Petersburg (1864); personal letters and papers (1881-1911) regarding the activities and policies of the G.A.R. of which Olin was an officer, especially his interest (1893-1911) in the veteran's pensions legislation (the Sulloway bill); personal correspondence dealing with matters of concern to Olin as secretary of state (1891-1911), including correspondence with James Gillespie Blaine, Henry Laurens Dawes, George Frisbie Hoar, and John Davis Long; and documents (1879-85) regarding the establishment of a uniform design for the Great Seal of Massachusetts.
